Countryside Garden
Locatie
Beernem, Belgium
Datum
2008
Designed by
Barbara Claerhout
The garden features open spaces with neatly trimmed lawns where boxwood, oaks and beech trees define the Flemish flat landscape, overlooking meadows and potato fields, flanked by willow walks. In contrast, around the pond there is a more lush and wild area of the garden. Although these contrasting styles, the overall design is one, designed around the house and connected with vistas and lines.
The owners enjoy spending most of their time in the garden. Central to their outdoor lifestyle are a swimming pond with a natural filtration system, a greenhouse, a vegetable garden, and an orchard. The garden features brass sculptures of birds and mythical creatures by Jef Claerhout and Victor-Emmanuel D’hoore. The house is a creation of architect Bernard De Clerck. Barbara and Bernard bought the place when they were just married. Both passionate about gardening and architecture, the house and the garden have been their lifelong creation. The garden and house recently appeared in Seeking Sanctuaries, published by Beta Plus.
